Role of Youth in Current Situation

– Farrukh Adnan

Youth is the backbone of any nation as this is the stage when all kinds of strengths and abilities begin to flourish in a person. They play an important role in the development and degradation of any nation. When the youth of the nation are talented and use their talents for the welfare of the nation, how is it possible that the nation becomes degraded?

At the same time, they play an important role in every small and big change in society and the nation. In the past, we realize that whenever a nation has found its way to development, the youth have played an important role.

We see many places in the Quran where Allah informs about the previous nation and their youth.

It is We who relate to you, [O Muḥammad ], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance. (Al-Kahf:13)

The Qur’an guides us that when you are oppressed and the land is constricted on you from all sides, you still have to glorify Allah and not bow down to falsehood. The Qur’an addresses the youth by saying that they were only a few who believed in Allah and refused to accept the customs of their people and society; and denied the greatness of falsehood and proclaimed falsehood by following the guidance of Allah.

Allah further says:

But no one believed Musa, except [some] youths among his people, for fear of Pharaoh and his establishment that they would persecute them. And indeed, Pharaoh was haughty within the land, and indeed, he was of the transgressors. (Al-Yunus:83)

When Musa (A.S) proclaimed the message of Allah, some of the youth accepted it and refused to follow the path of the disbelievers. They were young men who stood up for the truth, despite Pharaoh’s tyranny, and believed in Allah.

At the time of the Prophet ﷺ, many young people accepted Islam. Musab ibn Umayr (رض), was a young man who belonged to a rich family, when he accepted Islam, his family stripped him of his clothes and forced him to return to his ancestral religion. Similarly, Ammar bin Yasir(رض), Khabab(رض), and Bilal(رض) were also persecuted by the people of Makkah but they failed to turn them away from the truth.

Alhamdulillah, if there is a nation in the world today that has a large number of youth, then it is no other nation but the Muslim Ummah. Allah has empowered the Ummah in this age through these young people but there is a need for these young people to know and recognize their mission and follow it and become a source of encouragement and strength to the Ummah.

The situation that is prevailing at the national level today is that falsehood is trying its best to defeat Islam in some way and at the same time they are using every possible means to mislead the youth of this Ummah and turn them away from Islam. We see that many young people of the Ummah are still suffering from distraction and they are not finding the right path. Many young people are suffering from drug addiction and have been dragged on this path.

In these circumstances, youths are highly expected to make every possible effort to improve the condition of the nation again. Come forward and work on a systematic way to stop the atrocities and violence against the Ummah. The youth of the ummah are the victims of misguidance, trapped in the shackles of atheism, involved in evils, drug-addicted, and those who have been led astray from the way of Allah. There is an urgent need to bring them closer to Islam and Allah. Because these young people are the future of the Ummah. The youths of the Ummah are urged to become practicing Muslims and spread the word of Allah in the world. Become a good person and a good Muslim and guide the nation in facing the current situation and dealing with it.

Enjoin good deeds and try to prevent evil.
